Five Card Draw Poker Rules

Five card is a great card game to play whether you’re a kid or a seasoned poker player. Sometimes it is really fun to just sit back and play a game in which you don’t really have to do a lot of thinking. Five card draw is definitely one of those games. There really isn’t much strategy involved but you can definitely have a lot of fun playing and maybe make some money. The thing is though, that since there isn’t a lot of strategy involved it is hard to win on a consistent basis. In this article I will briefly go over the rules you’ll need to know to successfully play five card draw

Every game of five card draw begins with players making an ante. An ante is a nominal wager that everyone who wishes to participate in that particular hand must make. This is done so that everyone has a stake in the game and this is theorized to encourage more betting once the game actually begins.

Once everyone has placed their ante it is now time for the cards to be dealt. Every player starts the game off with five cards. These are all dealt face down and may only be seen by your. After everyone receives their cards a round of betting takes place. The betting begins with the player immediately to the left of the dealer and continues in a clockwise fashion. Every player must choose, to check, call, raise, or fold.

After the round of betting is complete players can trade in some of their cards for other cards. The number of cards that a player may exchange various from game to game, depending on house rules. In some games you may only trade three cards in, other games allow you to trade four cards in if you have an ace in you hand(which you will have to show), and there are a few games that’ll even let you trade in all five cards at once. In every game though you are not forced to exchange any of your cards. If you are happy with your hand you may simple forgo this step.

Once everyone has traded in their cards another round of betting takes place. Once this round of betting is complete players reveal their cards starting with the first play to the left of the dealer. The player with the best five card poker hand wins.
